Additive Manufacturing Flow Control Solutions

Additive Manufacturing Flow Control

Pinch-valve application guidance for concrete printing, contour crafting, powder handling and stabilizing-material removal—where deposition control, low moving mass and abrasion resistance matter.

Documented application and design guide

Begin with the real case study, then use the broader guide to translate material behavior, pressure, motion and cleaning into a valve specification.

Additive manufacturing flow-control selection factors
Material question Why it matters
Is the media a powder, paste, slurry or aggregate-filled mix? The media form changes abrasion, compaction and cleaning behavior.
What is the largest particle or fiber? Particle size must be considered with the valve bore and sleeve deformation.
Does the material cure, settle or harden during stops? Shutdown and cleaning procedures may be as important as normal operation.
How often will the valve cycle? Cycle duty and access for sleeve inspection affect equipment design.

Important limitations

A pinch valve is not automatically suitable for every printable material. Confirm particle size, abrasiveness, chemistry, pressure, temperature, cycle rate and cleaning method. Materials that cure in place or cannot be flushed require an explicit maintenance and recovery plan.

What to send technical sales

  • Material description and safety data where relevant
  • Largest particle, fiber content and tendency to settle or cure
  • Line size, connection, pressure and temperature
  • Required cycle rate and fail position
  • Available compressed-air pressure
  • Cleaning method and allowable downtime

Common questions

Can a pinch valve meter the deposited amount by itself?

No. A pinch valve controls the material path; dosing accuracy depends on the complete feed, control and measurement system.

What should the machine design provide for maintenance?

Allow safe access to inspect and replace the sleeve, isolate energy sources and clean the material path.
